Walking back to ‘appiness
A marketing student and budding entrepreneur from Porth in the Rhondda Valleys has developed a new iPhone application with a fun and competitive edge to encourage families to walk their dogs more regularly.
Nathan Price, 20, has developed the ‘Family Dog’ app, which allows users to track their dog walks, connect with family and friends, and earn points and achievements to compete in weekly leaderboards.
“I realised that as a family we weren’t able to monitor the amount of walking our family dog had throughout the week. I came up with the idea to connect our phones with an app that tracks our dog walks.”
Regular walks are a vital component of a dog’s health and lifestyle; and Nathan recognises the importance for all family members to share the responsibilities and also the benefits of walking their dogs.
He added that the features of collecting points on each walk can be an effective way of encouraging users to monitor their dog’s physical activity on a daily and weekly basis.
“I think it is really important to create a sense of friendly competition; hopefully it will encourage people to walk their dogs on a regular basis and allow them to have some fun too.”
Nathan has been working on the iPhone app, which is now available in the App Store, for the last 9 months in his spare time between studying Marketing at Cardiff Metropolitan University and his part time jobs.
With the support of a local app development company, Cooply Solutions, his designs have been brought to life to deliver the innovative concept.
“Fortunately for me, I found a fantastic team that saw potential in the idea and decided to develop the app alongside me. It’s been a great partnership and I’m really excited about the launch.”
